Food, drink, history and modern culinary love comes to life – I hope! – in my forthcoming book, Iconic San Francisco Dishes, Drinks and Desserts, due out August 13 (available now for preorder). It was delightful to research, hard to write, and I’m crossing my fingers that I’ve done some justice to the city’s most beloved legendary dishes and lovingly disputed original cocktails that came long before. Before all the “iconic” newfangled delicacies celebrated in modern restaurants. (Many no doubt delicious, but members of current culture, not predecessor landscape.)
Bonus: My brilliant husband took the pictures. (He likes to say he was cheap, but the truth is he’s good.)
Events are taking shape, celebrations are in the works, and nerves are building for the release. Thank you to all the inspiring historians (professional culinary and armchair), chefs, barfolks, postcard and ephemera collectors, and food and drink lovers who informed the pages. I am indebted.
Please buy, share, evangelize as you see fit. More importantly, devour historic San Francisco.
